Adding a Blog
Adding a blog to your website is not only informative for your customers, but helps you with your SEO efforts. The search engines love new content, and your blog can include many of the key phrases you want to do well on. Simply put, a blog is just a page of your website, usually written in an informative but informal style, that allows you to regularly add new material to your website.
In fact, it’s one of the best ways to get your business noticed by the search engines. Search engines constantly crawl webpages and index what they find. Each time they crawl, they look for new information. If you feed the search engines’ appetite for new content with a blog, you’re one step ahead of your competition. Your blogs should be informative, engaging and well written, and most of all, relevant to your business and your customers. This new content will increase the amount of indexed pages, increase keyword density on your website, increase your search engine ranking, and ultimately drive website traffic.
Blog writing can be pretty easy to determine a topic to write about. You can generate content for your blog by answering some of your customers’ most frequently asked questions. If you need to, Google for ideas, look for things such as trends for your industry, how to find a good home improvement contractor/hair stylist, etc.; how to choose between Option A and Option B, etc.
DO NOT copy and paste someone else’s blog. Write your blog as if you were speaking to a prospective client. After all, that is who is most likely reading your blog. You can also incorporate pictures on your blog to show a before and after scenario, or incorporate a how to video. It’s OK to link to an industry article or another blog if you first write something about your own thoughts about the topic.
Some tips for blog writing:
Make your writing easy to read. People scan more than they read. You need to make it easy for them to read your blog.
- Keep your paragraphs short.
- Use bullet points (they’re easier to read)
- Keep your sentences short and simple
- In most cases write for a 5th grader if you want google to place your site better
